How can I remove adhesive tile from a hardwood floor without damaging the wood?

The tile looks to be the self-adhesive type, but it is cracked and poorly laid over a hardwood floor. I'd like to remove it with as little damage to the wood as possible. How can I remove adhesive tile from a hardwood floor without damaging the wood?
use a heat gun or an electric iron. How can I remove adhesive tile from a hardwood floor without damaging the wood?
There is no simple way to do this.

I had to use a 4 inch putty knife, and elbow grease.

A good set of kneepads will save lots of pain.

It depends on the type of tile.

If it is the self adhesive type, it should come up fairly easy.

If not, it will probably break as you try to scrape under it.

But, if the tile comes up easy, the glue that held it probably won't. Keep scraping.

If you think of a stripper for the glue, check that it won't discolor the wood, but prepare for a messy cleanup.

Scrape carefully or carefree, you're the only one who knows how little damage you're willing to cope with.
Use a heat gun to heat up the tile, this will cause the glue underneath the tile to loosen. Then use a putty knike to pry the tile up. It will come up very easy however caution and patients will be required. Heat guns are hotter than a hair dryer, use just enough heat to loosen the adhesive on the back of the tile. It worked for me!
