My husband just took our up and the layer of 1969 tiles glued down under it. He purchased a heat gun at the Home depot for under $30.00. (Don't forget to get knee pads while you are there.) He would preheat a square with the iron on a cloth, then move that to the next square while he took the heat gun and aimed it at the corner of the tile, using a putty knife he'd pry up the tile following after the heat gun. He tried the chisel method and the tile scraper too, didn't work at all. This melted the adhesive like butter and the tiles peeled off.How do i get self adhesive floor tiles up?
try a spade and slide it hard under the tiles
i said spade because most shovels have
sides on them so Gardiner spade is the best
good luck it works
a hot gun or household iron with a tea towel underneath one heated they are so soft.run a scraper under them they'll be off in no time xx
if its laid on a concrete floor use a butane blow torch and hire the use of a ';bulldog'; scrapper. most tool hire shops will supply both. a bulldog is a solid steel heavy duty scrapper for use on concrete its a serious piece of kit. use the bulldog first then remove the excess glue with the blow torch and a wire brush. total cost maybe 30 quid
Try heating them with a hairdryer it will melt the glue.
Use a blow dryer to heat them up then scrape them. The blow dryer will heat up the adhesive and make it melt.
Get a heavy duty floor scraper. It is a 12'; scraper on a heavy broom handle. You can work standing up and use some real leverage, just put your back into it big strokes they come right off. They aren't that much $25 or so, and worth every penny. All the big box stores will have them.
Sorry to say this, but I had the same problem when I moved into my place and I just had to plod-on like your doing now. Never mind once your finished all that toil, look back and admire.
Your in luck!! I have had this happen b4... call the local rental store and ask them for the '; electril floor chisel'; for removing tile!! I just saved ya day..gimme my best answer award plz!!!
The chisel is able to get all the dried up glue off without melting it and making an even bigger mess..good luck!
If you are in the UK try www.hss.com they hire several floor tile removers for around 拢60-100 for the weekend. Please read the instructions first. These are powerful machines and can do a lot of damage if misused.
heat the tiles gently with hot air gun
