I've used a heat gun and scraper to remove it - you have to get it hot enough to soften and then scrape it off. It's painstaking work but they do have floor scrapers that have long handles so you don't have to spend all that time on your hands and knees. How do I remove flooring adhesive from a wooden floor? try a hair blower set to hot, then blow those adhesive and remove it.
One time I used a steaming wall paper remover. You know you get those things that heat up and lie it along the wall paper and it steams it off. This worked for the adhesive on the floor too.

We put a thin piece of wood (or plywood) over the adhesive and steamed it. Adhesive stuck to wood and we pulled it up.

Good luck to you.
