Best bet is to remove the old stuff before laying the new tiles. You can bypass that if you first apply a base to make the adhesive stick. I can't remember what it's called just now, but your home center can help. They sell several different kinds so ask at the store for assistance. Once you place this covering on the floor, lay your adhesive down and tile your floor, only do as much as you can lay tile for. For example if you are doing this yourself, start with a 4 by 4 section, put your mastic down, lay your tile, then move on. If you have help, you can usually do larger plots. Do your interior first laying all your full tiles then go back and do the cut pieces.I want to lay some ceramic floor tiles on my asphalt floor what adhesive do i need to use?
Easy peasy:- first use a latex to level and seal the floor :- neat cement powder, water resistant P.V.A.And water the ratio for the mix will be on the side of the P.V.A.mix it thin so it can find it`s own level. Secondly use the same mixture but thicken it to consistency that will just about form a mass when poured and use this to set the tiles , but beware if you do not work quickly enough it will set on you,you can delay the set by wetting the underneath of the tile. Do only a small area at a time until you get the hang of it but do not underestimate the setting time, the mix will set in about 3 to 4 mins so clean up as you go. If you use the same mix (which you can) as grout then use sawdust as you go to clean the surface of the tiles. If you make the setting cement too wet the tiles will';float'; out of position,if the mix is right you will feel the suction as you lay the tile,Good luck.And remember mix only a small amount at a time,about half a bucketful.
ashpalt floor .. do you mean the tar glue used under old vinyl tiles ?..

if so , it is hard to remove,.. advisable- but you can use - a polimer modified cement based thin set mortar - WITH a fast setting additive ( already mixed). there is only a few hours drying time,

i personally like- MAPEI RAPID SETTING RS.

i am a tile contractor for over 30 years .

look up your local tile shop PRO.

THERE IS NO REAL ALL PURPOSE GLUE, there is only a multy purpose,

ask more questions - where you buy your thinset .

good luck
you do not need to remove the asphalt, but you may need to put down ';Hardy backer board';

You can get it at Home Depot. I would call a place that sells tile and tell them what you're trying to do, they will tell you what you need to do.
first you need to remove all asphalt flooring then use tile set according to instruction, final step is grouting tile.
