Is it possible to put down self adhesive floor tile on top of ceramic floors?

It should go down quite nicely.

If the ceramic floor was well laid to start with, there will be little prep except cleaning (and the application steps below)

If you're doing it because the ceramic tile has failed, it should still allow you a couple of years before you do the major tear out/replace work. Use the leveler of the steps below as a filler when you remove loose or broken tiles. Follow the instructions on the bag. This floor will still be subject to whatever caused the ceramic floor to fail and that will eventually have to be dealt with. But it'll look better and be a little safer until then.

Apply a binder to a *clean* floor.

Take care of any unevenness in the floor using a leveling compound.

Do the usual layout for tile floors but adjust it so that the joints are staggered from the original tile joints.

Peel and stick!

(note)

The binder is an acrylic liquid that looks milky that can be quickly brushed on and allowed to dry before sticking down the tiles. It provides a good ';tooth'; for the adhesive and helps prevent the failures the other answerer talked about regarding cement floors.

I've also used this stuff when doing drywall patches on enamel painted walls and when patching concrete. It helps with the adhesion.

I consider vinyl tiles like this to be a temporary floor cover like carpeting or linoleum. Eight to ten years would be a good life span. If you want longer, replace the ceramic *after* fixing whatever caused the original failure. Is it possible to put down self adhesive floor tile on top of ceramic floors?
If the tiles on the floor are very smooth and the seams don't line up with the new ones, it may work. If the seams meet, it won't stick properly.

Or...you could buy a plywood called ';Luan'; and use ';liquid nails'; to hold it to the floor, then you will have a perfectly good surface to install the new tiles onto.Is it possible to put down self adhesive floor tile on top of ceramic floors?
first off, why would you want to cover up ceramic tile??? if its broke and looks like crap.i would suggest tearing it out and replacing with ceramic,if you can afford it...if you are looking for the cheap way out, then you need to lay wood down over top of it, and apply tile to the wood.use liquid nails to adhere the wood to the tile...peel and stick tile WILL NOT last long if you apply it to the ceramic tile, ceramic does not have the right texture to let the tile set properly...
no. after sometime the the ceramic tile will show through.
To my knowledge i dont think it would work because i put it on my concrete celler floor and it started to peel off, to me its just a cheap product and only adhears good to a very smooth plywood surface, i would use a';quiet floor'; underlay and use a floating flool product , hope this helps u .
